Is LeBron James close to a three-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers?

The NBA offseason will perhaps be the most important offseason for the league in recent memory as things could look drastically different at the beginning of next season with many superstars possibly changing teams via free agency.

The one team that is more concerned than any other heading into this NBA offseason is the Cleveland Cavaliers. As perhaps the team with more to lose than any other team in the league this summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been trying to do everything within their power to re-sign two-time NBA MVP LeBron James.

Over the last two years or so, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding LeBron James and where he might possibly be going when he becomes a free agent on July 1st. Despite the Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks all have their sights set on signing LeBron to a free agent contract this summer, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been said to have the “edge” in signing the superstar.

After the Cleveland Cavaliers were shocked by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs, the speculation began about whether or not that would be the turning point for LeBron James and enough to convince him to sign elsewhere.

Despite everyone believing that he will not be able to win in Cleveland as they just don’t have the right pieces to the puzzle, LeBron has still given some indication that he ranks the Cavaliers first on his list of possible destinations this summer.

Personally, I believe the temptation is much too great for LeBron to leave his hometown as he could have a better chance of winning an NBA title elsewhere with a team that could surround him with much better talent than what he has now in Cleveland.

The one team that seems to be the frontrunner in this race to sign LeBron James is the New York Knicks.

Over the years the New York Knicks have gone from one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference to basically nothing more than a joke. The Knicks have been nothing short of pitiful in the post Patrick Ewing era as they just haven’t been able to compete with the likes of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic or Boston Celtics.

Great players have come on gone in New York, but with the addition of LeBron into the mix and one other big-name free agent, the Knicks could instantly transform from one of the worst teams in the league to arguably one of the best and a possible title contender.

No matter how much LeBron gets asked the question about his future or whether or not he is New York bound, the reigning two-time NBA MVP has remained silent and refuses to say that any other team besides the Cleveland Cavaliers have a chance to sign him come July 1st.

Recently, a rumor was floating about LeBron talking to the Cleveland Cavaliers about a possible three-year deal with the team in order to give the Cavs just one more chance to win an NBA title with King James leading the way.

Even though I believe LeBron will leave this summer, the fact that he might be seriously considering a three-year deal seems more likely than any other scenario, but then again, this is just a rumor.
