NFL Week 2: Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons Sun. Sept. 18, 2011 8:20 p.m. EST

This NFL regular season got off to a rocky start for the Atlanta Falcons as they were absolutely dominated by the defending NFC North division champion Chicago Bears in Week 1. Despite being considered a legitimate Super Bowl title contender and one of the best teams in the league before the season began, the Falcons didn’t look really good in their season debut on either side of the football.

In Week 2, the Atlanta Falcons could have an even tougher challenge ahead of them with superstar quarterback Michael Vick coming back to the Georgia Dome to take on his former team for the first time as a starting quarterback for another team. Not only will there be a lot of emotion in this game for Vick as he will look to put on a show in front of the his fans in Atlanta, but the Eagles will come into this game as one of the best teams in the league and looking to go up 2-0 to start the season.

Michael Vick will definitely be the number one concern for the Atlanta Falcons defense heading into this showdown of NFC Conference heavyweights, but the Philadelphia Eagles are extremely talented on offense this season with multiple threats like running back LeSean McCoy, wide receiver DeSean Jackson and veterans Ronnie Brown and Steve Smith. This team could turn out to be one of the best in the league on both sides of the football, but they will have to prove themselves against a proven winner like the Falcons.

As for Atlanta, Matt Ryan and company will be trying to get back on track after the disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears in their season opener. The offense was the biggest disappointment for the Falcons in Week 1 as they just couldn’t get anything going offensively and finished with just six points on the scoreboard. The Bears defense is amongst the best in the league, but the Falcons are considered one of the best offenses in the league, especially with the addition of rookie wide receiver Julio Jones out of Alabama.

The main storyline for this Week 2 battle at the Georgia Dome will be the return of Michael Vick to Atlanta, but this game could be a potential preview of the NFC Championship game as these two teams could be the best of the best in the NFC Conference when it is all said and done. Despite the fact that I believe the Falcons will be able to get back on track at some point in the regular season, the Eagles will get the best of Roddy White and company in Week 2.

As of right now, the Philadelphia Eagles have been given the edge in this matchup with a -3 point spread. This is a pretty solid spread as I could see the Eagles covering it, but this game could easily go either way.

Take the Eagles at -3.
