Miami Dolphins looking for new quarterback after Chad Henne injury

In Week 1 of the NFL regular season, the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Chad Henne had their work cut out for them going up against the division rival New England Patriots and reigning NFL MVP Tom Brady. Despite the Patriots being heavily favored to come out on top in this matchup and for good reason, Chad Henne and company put up a fight and played much better than anticipated.

With Henne racking up a career-high 475 total yards (416 passing, 59 rushing) and three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), there was hope in South Beach that this season the Dolphins could contend for a playoff spot, but Miami still fell to New England, 38-24.

Even though the Miami Dolphins lost to the New England Patriots, Chad Henne seemed to be on the verge of a breakout season as he might finally be able to live up to expectations, but things only got worse after Week 1 as they the Dolphins have failed to record a single win heading into Week 5. Not only are the Dolphins winless heading into their bye week, but they may have lost quarterback Chad Henne for the rest of the season after he separated his shoulder in the loss to the San Diego Chargers in Week 4.

It is still uncertain at this point in time whether or not Chad Henne will be able to get back on the field this season for the Dolphins, but that hasn’t stopped Miami from already starting to look for his replacement. The obvious choice for the Dolphins would be to go after former Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback David Garrard who was released by the Jaguars before Week 1. Even though Garrard seems like the clear choice to sign with Miami, the veteran quarterback reportedly has no interest in joining the Dolphins as he is looking for a better opportunity with another team.

With David Garrard not an option for the Dolphins, Miami has started to look in another direction by courting veteran gunslinger Jake Delhomme. Along with Delhomme, the Miami Dolphins have brought in veteran free agents Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle to workout with the team and possibly compete for the starting role.

Needless to say, this season looks like it could be lost for the Miami Dolphins if they can’t bring in a decent quarterback to replace Chad Henne and led this team to their first win of the year. In my opinion, Jake Delhomme is a good option for this team as he can bring in some veteran leadership that might help the Dolphins win a few games down the road, but with Miami potentially becoming the worst team in the league this season one can’t help but wonder if they should start tanking games to lockup the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft which would end up being Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

It will be interesting to see what moves the Miami Dolphins will make in the bye week in order to get this team back on track, but at this point in time it seems that this team is beyond repair and might be forced to look forward to next season.
